Day Refresher
What is it?
So much more than a briefing or a sail setting recap, this is highly recommended for all bookings. The day refresher is a relaxing, fun, yet informative day to ensure you get the best out of the boat and your holiday – an opportunity to discuss your plans, the sailing area, weather and places to visit. All you need to know for a perfect week onboard.
Who is it for?
The day refresher benefits the skipper and crew. There’s nothing worse than back seat drivers (particularly if they’re family or friends!). Enjoy your first day sailing with less pressure, crew confidence, knowledge and safety. A great opportunity for anyone to ask any questions while familiarising yourselves with the boat. Every boat is different so the more comfortable you are with your boat and equipment, the more pleasurable your holiday will be, for everyone.
Who will skipper the day refresher?
You will, and Chris will support you all the way. It’s by no means a test!
What might we cover in a typical day?
- Safe and proper use of winches and sheets
- Hoisting and setting sails for all courses
- Reefing mainsail and genoa
- Man overboard recovery
- Departing from harbour and stern-to mooring
- Anchoring
- Proper use of VHF and DSC

“We chartered a Bavaria 39 from Ionian Blue for 1 week and had a fantastic time! We hadn’t sailed for a while so Chris also took us out on a refresher sail, where he made sure to focus on some of the things we weren’t too confident about such as stern-to mooring and long lining – this was incredibly useful for sailing around the area! Overall the boat was in great condition and we had a blast sailing.
